The volume of writing in public administration grows with the number of cases. Analogue and digital dictation systems can no longer cope with this volume. Server-based speech recognition with ProDictate Online speeds up the production of documents without placing additional load on the IT department.

Limits of the single-workstation solution

Some authorities and ministries use the Dragon speech recognition software. As a single-workstation solution it has to be installed manually on every PC, and user profiles are backed up using custom scripts. With a larger pool of users this ties up considerable IT capacity. Hardware requirements have also risen, so new PCs often have to be purchased.

For this reason, terminal solutions with WTS or Citrix XenApp are widespread in public administration. With a newer version of Dragon, however, support for Citrix XenApp was discontinued. Anyone who wants to keep using speech recognition needs a terminal-server-capable solution.

ProDictate Online on the terminal server

ProDictate Online is server-based speech recognition for public administration and ministries. Users continue to work in their session as usual, and the recognised words are written directly into the word processor. There is no disadvantage compared with the previous solution.

It makes no difference whether the user works on a Windows PC or a thin client running Linux. ProDictate Online includes the drivers for the common operating systems: Windows, IGEL, Stratodesk and Open Thin Client. It can be deployed in heterogeneous IT environments without new hardware. For the IT department this means a considerable saving in time and cost.

Key points

  • Single-workstation speech recognition causes high installation effort and often requires new hardware.
  • After the loss of XenApp support in Dragon, public administration needs a terminal-server-capable solution.
  • ProDictate Online runs on Windows PCs and Linux thin clients in WTS and Citrix environments.
