Digitization as an opportunity: Why companies should adapt

Why some companies miss out on digitalisation: lack of awareness, outdated business models, insufficient resources and vision. And the consequences.

Many companies do not adopt digital technologies even though these could improve their workflows and increase efficiency. The reasons recur. Knowing them makes it possible to counteract them.

Four reasons companies miss out on digitalisation

  1. Lack of awareness. The benefit of digital solutions for their own industry is not recognised. Without understanding and interest, business processes are not improved.
  2. Outdated business models. Models that have worked for decades are not adapted to new technologies and changing markets. The result is lost market share.
  3. Insufficient resources. Digital solutions require investment in technology, infrastructure and training. Companies that see digitalisation purely as a cost do not make these investments.
  4. Lack of vision. Without a clear and regularly updated idea of their own future, companies react too slowly to change.

The consequences

Companies that do not adapt risk losing market share and customers to competitors with digital offerings. In the long term, their competitiveness is at stake.

Conversely, digitalisation offers the opportunity to optimise business processes and open up new lines of business. The prerequisite is that management recognises the benefit and provides the necessary resources.

Key points

  • Lack of awareness, old business models, scarce resources and missing vision are the most common obstacles.
  • Digitalisation is an investment, not merely a cost.
  • Those who do not adapt lose market share and customers.
